Quotes for the day: “If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth or power, but for the passionate sense of the potential, for the eye which, ever young and ardent, sees the possible.” Kierkagaard
“ Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and your soul will delight in he richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; hear me, that your soul may live!” Isaiah 55:3
“ Work is not always required… there is such a thing as sacred idleness, the cultivation of which is now fearfully neglected.” George Macdonald
I have never met a person with too much time on their hands, but I have met plenty of people who are not living inspired lives. This is not a judgment as much as an observation that a lot of us get lost from time to time in great projects, jobs and necessary responsibilities. We sometimes forget that we are responsible for inspiring ourselves and living with vision and intentionality.
Yesterday, a client asked me what inspired and revved my engines. I have coined this act of claiming time for myself as a “Soul Picnic”. A Soul Picnic includes all the things that I know speak to my soul, from reading scripture to listening to music, to putting on my belly dancing scarf and shimmying to a CD. Most of the time it involves going somewhere outside my neighborhood and sitting with an Americano and my notebook, or a visit to a local gallery where the colors and creativity can wash over me. Sometimes it is a visit to the local bookstore, or sitting with a window view of the water. Rarely, it involves more than a couple of hours, but it is an investment in something that turns everything else in my life.
A Soul Picnic creates space from the rest of my life and allows my mind to wander and wink at the future. In this one simple act I connect to my life bigger and give oxygen to my potential.
So I ask you today, what inspires you? If you had two or three hours this week or month that you could claim for yourself, what would you do? Where would you go? More importantly, what would that do for you?
Don’t wait until the next retreat or women’s conference, give yourself a Soul Picnic, trust me you won’t regret it!
I love hearing from you, so let me in on your plans for your Soul Picnic!
Wishing you a oxygen for your dreams,
