Butterfly Heroes

QUOTE FOR TODAY: “Change will not come if we wait for some other person; or if we wait for some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the change that we seek…. We are the hope of the future.” Barack Obama (Chicago 02/05/2008)

THOUGHT FOR TODAY: I have read that the fluttering of a butterfly’s wings can effect climate changes on the other side of the planet.

And while you may have a hard time fathoming the idea that something so small could have such an impact, it is an exciting concept to consider.

I believe that the fluttering of a life can do the same.
When we stop looking outside to find what God has already sealed in our identity. When we start living in our truth and stop wishing for something else. Only then, do we discover the wings of our own authentic lives. It is courageous work. It is the call to be the hero of your own life and protect the passion and purpose God, lovingly placed inside you.

Often our energies are spent trying to look successful, building an image, maintaining the idea that we have it all together. We start to put aside the idea that we were made to effect changes in this world or that we are powerful. How could one person make a difference? How could one butterfly affect my weather?

The other night I was watching a new television show called “Terminator” The premise of the show is that one boy is the hope of all humanity. Sound familiar? At some point in the future he will lead an underground force against the “machines” that are threatening to take over the world. Protecting this boy and convincing him of his destiny is the theme of every episode.

I sometimes wonder if God isn’t trying to convince us of the same thing.

What if you are that boy or girl? What if you are meant to do something that affects this world or the future? What if the balance of lives count on you to realize you are a hero?

What makes you think you aren’t?

Perhaps it our definition of a what a hero is that needs some revising.

Most heroes aren’t flashy. They may not own a big stage. Instead, their authentic flutter is one that may seem more ordinary. They are writers and poets who bleed for their words and artists who wrestle the shadows, so they may show us the sacred. They are warrior, musicians who wield weapons of worship. Some heroes are parents who look to nurture the brilliance of their children and never forget how to be one themselves. Some heroes are women who embrace the second part of their lives with “What’s next?” These heroes have a message they repeat over and over and over in their living.

This message has a beat and a rhythm that vibrates out into the world–and I believe it changes the climate on the other side of the planet.

Today, think about what your message is saying, are you the hero of your calling?
