Letting Go-Taking Care

QUOTE FOR TODAY: “We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” ~Joseph Campbell
THOUGHT FOR TODAY: Several years ago, a good friend of mine told me the truth. She said, “I think you need some T.L.C. and you need a lot of it.” At first, I was offended, then as I sat with the comment I began to realize she was right. I couldn’t think of one person that I allowed to T.L.C. me.
This was the entry in my journal two days later:
I miss out on being comforted, because I don’t ask for what I need. I am not allowing myself to be refueled, constantly caretaking others, accepting less, proving myself unworthy…so no matter what I accomplish, it’s never enough.
This is an old way of being that is no longer working.
So what am I afraid of?????
The average mom devotes 87.9 minutes a day cooking meals for her family and 4.2 minutes on her hair. No matter how you do the math, it’s a bad equation. Women cheat themselves. We take care of everyone within our field of vision and end up loosing our perspective. Worst of all, we begin to think that it is selfish to consider ourselves. We fear looking as though we need anything.
Every year my friend Kay and I take out our calendars and plan one day a month that is ours. Then, we protect it with our lives. Why? Because Kay is that friend in my life who makes me laugh until my mascara puddles on my upper lip. She loves bling, animal prints, bright colors and pedicures. She is a born optimist, a woman of great faith, who makes me homemade Salsa and always reminds me God has my back. Our days together refuel me and are so important to both of us that our husbands and kids are more than a little envious. And that’s okay, because we have learned that God wants us to value and care for the girl inside. As Kay says’ If Momma goes down, the whole thing falls apart”
Sometimes we have to give up looking like we can do it all, to have the life God wants for us. Sometimes we have to admit that we need some T.L.C. Make a way for it. Plan it into your schedule. Then protect it with your life.
