Owning Your Stage

Friday, April 11, 2008

Last year, while watching a show where musicians vie for the opportunity to be a part of a new rock and roll group, I was struck by the idea of what it means to own a stage.

I was particularly fascinated by the girl-rockers with leaping appendages that moved wildly from corner to corner. They were for that moment transported into the music and I went along for the ride. They owned their stage. They went “flat out” in their music, pulling away the veil on their hearts and pouring out rich, gut wrenching chords of brilliance. And in spite of the fact that they didn’t seem concerned about looking pretty, it was a thing of beauty.

So for all of you who struggle with whether you deserve a stage or even want one, Think about what it would mean to own a stage designed just for you? How that would change your life, and energize every cell of your being?

After the show, I turned to my husband, and shouted ”Yeah that’s what I’m talking about! I want to own my stage”. I want people to say, “She’s all over that thing”. Being the husband of a life coach has seasoned him for such outbursts. Of course my stage was not a rocker stage, but a stage of my own expertise of coaching creativity, inspiration and vision for women.

So what does that look like? It looks like the veil on all our hearts stripped away, and no longer worrying that we are enough. It means letting go of the false badges we wear to feel like we contribute. It means gabbing ahold of the dream inside you that pulls you like a magnet!

This stage represents our life purpose and message. You and I own this stage it was built for each of us. Every nail was hammered to hold up under the duress of legs flying and heels stomping and the weighty, rich tones of our authentic voices.

So today, let me encourage you to scream like a rocker until you can feel it in your toes, “I OWN THIS STAGE”. Now that’s a thing of beauty.

What does the stage designed for you, look like?
What are the seeds (stories, accomplishments) planted in your heart as a child that built this stage? Tell me about them, I would love to hear. Your dreams inspire me.

Here is some music to inspire you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSdP6PqsbJY

Wishing you the stage, God made,
