Why Are You Here?
“When we believe we are on a mission entrusted to us alone, Our lives comes into focus.” ~ Run Like A Girl, Igniting The Spark For Your Next Great Adventure. (Releasing July 7th!)
“Why are you here?”
Great question—unless you don’t know the answer.
Marketing guru, Seth Godin claims this question will change your life.
Perhaps, another way of asking it is, “What is your calling?”
When we dare to ask this type of question, we begin a kind of archeological dig. We brush off certain artifacts and findings, and uncover the evidence of our values, giftings and great successes. One of my clients calls this process discovering her X-Factor. An X-Factor refers to the unique combination of attributes that God has placed inside you. It is that something that sets you apart from others with similar missions and callings.
I remember a time in my own coaching where I realized that even if there were thousands of speakers, writers and sites for women, my own voice would deliver something no one else could. When you realize you have a mission and that no one can do it like you, your life takes on a whole new dimension.
You know that God has given you gifts and that you feel competent in a thing or two. Just knowing that doesn’t present a sense of urgency or passion. Why are you here is the kind of question that brings up other questions like,
“Why are you doing what you do?”
“Whose life are you making better?”
“How do you want to be remembered?”
God describes your life as a race. A race has a sense of urgency, a race requires focus and determination. “Why am I here?” is the kind of question that turns the key in the ignition and makes you realize that you are not supposed to be a speed bump. Instead, God wants to rev your engine for the race. He says, “Your race is something that is urgent—pay attention.” There is something that God wants you to do and only you can fulfill the mission. He has uniquely gifted you for the task.
So today, picture the spotlight on you, heaven cheering, your heart full, focused on the race of your life—what would you do for that? My answer is everything, anything.
“This is the only race worth running. I’ve run hard right to the finish, believed all the way.” 2 Timothy 4:7 The Message
