Clean House New Life podcast

Last week a friend on facebook posted that she had cleaned out some drawers and cupboards and felt renewed and exuberant.  What followed was a stream of comments from other women who acknowledged that as much as they detest this kind of task, the end result is a kind of freedom and euphoria. I concur.  I think we all have a room (or two) that we try not to think about.  I have a hard time with my car.  It becomes the gathering place for all things I don’t wish to carry into the house.  The other day, the whole family tried to pile into it only to find a bag lady had been living in my back seat.  Not good.

clean_house_host_niecy_nashA couple of weeks ago while channel surfing, I found a show called “Clean House.” If you have ever watched it, you quickly realize that it is about far more than housekeeping.

It tackles the cartloads of stuff we try to hold on to in our lives that quickly fill our back rooms, our garages and the back seats of our cars–and our hearts.  Clean House is a metaphor for life coaching, helping people address the way they live and what they are putting up with.

Lightening up has many benefits, especially when we want to create something new.  The end result is room for new ideas and space to dream and create, but first we must work around the fact that we have a certain amount of shame attached to the condition of our homes, lives and hearts. My friend on facebook, said it like this: “I am worried that the crazy broad from HGTV with the flower in her hair is gonna show up on my doorstep and want to see my junk drawer…that’s my nightmare.” I laughed out loud and then realized in coaching, I am that broad.

People come to coaching for a myriad of reasons, from a desire to write their story, career transition, reinvention to something as focused as weight loss.

Peter Walsh author of , Does This Clutter Make My Butt Look Fat?, makes the connection between clutter and some of our best intentions. Peter’s uses his expert techniques honed from years as a clutter expert and organizational consultant, and demonstrates how the clutter in your home is directly related to the clutter on your body. In short clutter negatively affects your ability to lead a full and healthy life. Listen to an excerpt from his book.

As in de-cluttering your home and your life there is always one big question to ask. What is the benefit?  In Clean House, the benefit is tangible. They get a new living space with a designers touch.  In our lives, it may be a bit more murky.  Make a list of all the ways you will benefit from creating more space.  You are the designer here, so create a whole body description that will inspire you in weak moments when you just want to forget the whole thing.

Secondly, begin to think about what you need to get rid or clear away to make room for this new intention.  In coaching, we call this “clearing the clutter.” It goes without saying we lose vision in our lives when we have too much stuff taking our time, energy and focus off what could be—maybe what we desperately want.  So clearing begins with looking at the things that are deflecting you.  Maybe, you have too much on your plate, too many things that keep you busy and reacting to you life. Make a list of where your energy and time is going.  Sort these into the 3-D’s, Do it-Delegate it-Dump it.  This is where a coach is optimal, because you might think you have to do it all, or that there is no one to delegate it to. A coach can help you think your way out of these mindsets. I have seen women delegate by trading out services with a neighbor, hiring a (gulp) housekeeper to come in once a month or enlisting the services of their families.

Lastly, Sometimes our energies go to people– relationships that grab attention and energy from you. Some of them invest back into you and some of them do not. You are probably a good woman, someone people gravitate to with their problems and concerns. Sometimes we realize these relationships are costing us, but we are conflicted by a need to feel needed, a desire to do the right thing and a whole lot of fear. A coach can help you make better boundaries, wake up to your own low fuel indicators and have a strategy to guard and protect your resources.

Spring is around the corner. Another fresh chance to clean house and lighten up.  If life is weighing you down, find a life coach and begin removing the clutter.  Everyone of us wants to be in our groove, feeling our best and living a vibrant life!

  5. Thanks for the publish. My partner and i have continually noticed that the majority of people are desirous to lose weight as they wish to look slim as well as attractive. Even so, they do not constantly realize that there are many benefits just for losing weight as well. Doctors assert that over weight people are afflicted by a variety of conditions that can be directly attributed to their excess weight. Thankfully that people who sadly are overweight and also suffering from several diseases are able to reduce the severity of their illnesses by means of losing weight. It is possible to see a gradual but noted improvement with health whenever even a slight amount of weight loss is attained gywl59.
