Kicking Down The Doors
Quote: “I should be dead already… It must be for a reason… I just finally know… what I have to do…” Iron Man/Tony Stark
By now you may have seen the movie,“Iron Man & Iron Man 2″. It seems every time I go see one of these movies I am reminded that all of us are born blind to our true purpose and that we often spend a lot of time getting in our own way. If you look at any marvel comic you will see that only after we come to the end of ourselves, do we begin to get a glimpse of our real power. The real reason we are all still taking in air.
For most of us that means we are delivered an injustice, and a sacred spark is ignited in us.
Iron man is a story about Tony Stark, whose eyes are opened to a new reality. A world in which the bad guys are sometimes good, and the good guys, sometimes monsters. At first glance, you might think this is just a story about a guy who can make things explode and fly at supersonic speeds in a metal suit. I think this story illustrates a second, critical piece of insight for our lives. As my pastor says,“God takes no pleasure in smooth sailing”. Meaning, sometimes we think that God is in a thing when all the doors swing open wide and perhaps he isn’t if things are difficult. This leads me to the third realization, God uses opposition.
He uses it to call us to be more. Opposition makes us into people who do something!
I beleive that God is moved by risk- takers.
Stories like Iron Man, remind us what can happen when we find our place in this world. Maybe that means we have to kick the door down to get where God needs us to go. Maybe it means our expectations of smooth sailing as a sign that God is in our decisions may need to be altered.
What opposition in your life is God using to ignite your true purpose?
What will it take to kick down the doors?
