WOW-What A Ride Tour!

Watch me sell my house, put everything in storage and move into a travel trailer with my husband, and my 62 lb retriever. We may be coming to an area near you!

MY LIFE IN TRANSITION BLOG

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming – “WOW – What a Ride!” – Anonymous

Me in the trailer

This year I turned 55, sold my home and moved into my travel trailer with my husband and my 62lb retriever.  The plan? Well, that is a bit murky right now. The big picture is we are traveling to find our new home and community. Rest assured, I didn’t come up with this idea to leave the shoreline. However, I am choosing to let God take me out to sea, believing there is something out there I would not have found any other way.

So, just to be clear,

We don’t know where this will lead us.

We don’t have a specific plan.

Some would say we are lost.

Long ago, I learned we choose how we view the idea of being lost. We can either enter into it fully expecting to find something wholly, magnificent or reject at a fearful an immature, fool-hardy notion.

I am in truth, a “do-ever girl.” Something a good friend pointed our to me recently. So I view being lost as another opportunity for God to lead me in some new direction. You can’t choose adventure in your life until you resolve getting lost, or being lost.

The notion of lost-ness is  far more frightening than actually being lost. The notion is like a large, scarey guard dog that stands in front of the path marked, “God’s Big Breathtaking Life of Risk and Adventure.”  Once on the path, we find the guard dog is actually there to protect us, sometimes lick our hands and beg for scritches.

And if that notion doesn’t blow you away, we are finding others who like us, have taken the ride.

Like magnets clicking together, we find them everywhere we go. Their stories encourage us that this is a legitimate path.

I see,

It is the way of those who have endured great injustices, illness, death and loss.

It is the way when leaving everything no longer carries the sting of death, the fear of failure or the pressure of success.

It is the way of those who perhaps not completely fearless, do fear, less.

Their stories, buoy my courage that all the stuff I sometimes fear losing, get wrapped up in and feel pressure to protect is not all that important.

Consider this your personal invitation to come along in this blog, hear about our adventure and meet our new friends, brothers and sisters who will tell you their adventure at the drop of a hat. Maybe their stories will speak to you and inspire you to “take the ride” or maybe just fear, less.

Meet my new friend Rosie.

Rosie with one of her Halo hats

Rosie (Stephanie) and Tom Fischer, who consolidated everything several years ago, selling their home, moving into a 27 ft. trailer and starting a business called “Wild Woman Creations”(3 miles north of Depoe Bay, Oregon). Rosie describes herself as a “Reborn Artist and Christian” and writes a blog about her journey as an artist and believer. Her motto, like mine is “If it’s not fun, I’m not doing it.” She encourages women to find their creative tribes and invites women weekly to come and “play” in her studio. Play is the cornerstone of her mission and when she speaks her eyes spark like a girls as she tells me about her calling and struggle to get her business off the ground—which it is abundantly.

Her store is filled to the rafters with brightly colored treasures, beautifully woven, designed painted and created to empower every woman who walks through the door.  She made me cry when she told me her favorite thing was to see a woman come in and find a piece of wearable art uniquely her, perhaps a piece of her life or character that she had forgotten or thought she had lost. “ They become bonded”, she says throwing her hands up in a gesture or wholeness.

And of course Tom has his own place, a “man cave” where it is always on restoring classic cars and trucks when he isn’t helping his wife run the studio and store.

I encourage you to get on her site and read about her story. Better yet go visit her. http://www.awildwomancreation.blogspot.com/

I would ask you also for your prayers, as we expect there will be days we long for the safety of the shoreline and miss our kids, our friends and having a plan.

We are committed to the journey, the adventure and we are ready to “take the ride.”

Tune in for more stories tomorrow.
