Example:

“I cried the day I had to jump into the deep end. I stood staring at the bottom, praying for some form of miraculous intervention as the rest of my class waited, arms folded and shivering. My head was itching under the thick, white, rubber bathing cap and I had a churning feeling in my stomach that made me fear my breakfast was going to reach the bottom of the pool before me. My swim instructor called out to me “I promise you will float.” Every inch of me in my two-sizes, too-small suit wanted to believe that was true, still I doubted. When I finally left the safety of edge and plunged down into the aqua depths of the YWCA pool, my heart was pounding like a hammer. I touched the bottom and pushed off; breaking the surface … I had floated to the top. What I learned that day was that life, as in swimming, counts on certain laws of gravity and flotation. In the midst of insurmountable odds and pressure that memory reminds me that I am buoyant. Somehow, miraculously and even when I don’t believe it—I will float.”
